Chairman
Martin has over 30 years’ experience in pharmaceuticals and communication. He has national, regional, and global brand experience, ranging from specialty areas including organ transplantation and haemophilia to global blockbuster brands in rheumatology. Following a pharmaceutical career, which took him to Switzerland and the US, Martin returned to the UK to accept a partnership at the medical communications agency, Synergy. In 2014 Martin established ELM Group to bring his extensive knowledge back to his hometown with a focus on developing young talent. Martin has experience in all regions of the world having delivered programmes in over 50 countries on 6 continents, from global congresses to specialist advisory boards. His broad experience ensures that he can bring practical knowledge to whatever challenges you face. Outside of work Martin’s main interest is in rugby. He served on the legacy group for the 2015 Rugby World Cup and as Chairman of Stafford Rugby Club. He set up “The CAST”, a volunteer programme at Newcastle Falcons, and has recently established a charity, Sustainable Sports Foundation.
Vice Chairman
John has undertaken numerous roles across all regions of the world in marketing and operations management during over 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry. He has a Business Studies degree from Middlesex University, a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and studied Business Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. John brings experience in several therapeutic areas including launching products in inflammation & immunology, transplantation, infectious disease, haemophilia and neuroscience. Prior to joining ELM Group, he worked at Pfizer Inc. as Head of Strategic Partnerships and Alliances. In this role he expanded access to the company’s portfolio of marketed vaccines through innovative public-private partnerships with organisations including UNICEF and Gavi – the vaccines alliance. John lives near Philadelphia with his wife Jacky and their children Theo, Christopher and Annabelle and their dogs Bonnie and Megan. He enjoys golfing, fishing and travel with his family having recently fulfilled a long-term ambition to visit the Galapagos islands
Chief Executive Officer
Joe has approximately 25 years of experience in Medical Communications, supporting country, regional and global Clients across Publications, Medical, Commercial and Value teams. Most recently he has demonstrated successful leadership of global agencies, ensuring that Clients gain support from teams that are continually striving to enhance strategic planning and tactical implementation. His experience is gained from a wide range of different therapy areas across the product lifecycle; helping clients to navigate early phase, peri-launch and launch phases, as well as product life-cycle management post launch. Joe has recently completed an MSc in Evaluation of Health Care Interventions and Outcomes at the London School of Economics and Politics (LSE) and in conjunction with the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE). He is also an active member of the professional society for health economics and outcomes research (ISPOR), being involved in the ISPOR Special Interest Group on Health Equity. Prior to his Medical Communications career, Joe managed peer-review and production for a number of medical journals. Joe lives in London with his wife and their two independent girls. He tries to challenge himself (running the London Marathon in 2023 while he still could) and giving what time he can to cooking, travelling and learning the piano.
Chief Operating Officer
Angus first joined the ELM Group on a placement year from his undergraduate studies. Following completion of his BSc in Biology from Sheffield Hallam University, Angus rejoined the ELM Group as an Account Manager and remained with the company for 5 years taking on business development and Senior Account Manager roles, primarily focused on the growth of CESAS Medical. Following a career move to explore other opportunities, Angus re-joined the ELM Group as Programme Director, overseeing both account management and content development on various projects before becoming our Client Services Director where he now heads up both our account and event management teams. Alongside these roles, Angus completed his MBA with the University of Warwick, graduating in July 2023.
Scientific Services Director
In 2023, Richard joined ELM Group as Scientific Services Director and now oversees the content team. He holds a BSc in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Sheffield and earned his PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Nottingham. Richard boasts an impressive 19 years of agency experience, during which he has collaborated with numerous global pharmaceutical companies on diverse projects. These projects have included strategic plans, meetings, publications, digital content, training materials, and commercial content. His expertise spans a wide range of therapy areas, including oncology, immunology, rare diseases, CNS and cardiovascular disease. When he’s not at work, Richard lives in Cheshire with his family and two dogs. His passions outside of the office include hitting the gym, designing for 3D printing, and repairing vintage watches.
Senior Medical Writer
Praveen graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Biomedicine. At ELM Group, Praveen is a Senior Medical Writer working on both ELM Medical and CESAS Medical where he is the main content lead for Achondroplasia.expert and the CSF. In his role, Praveen is involved in the production of a range of scientific programmes, including publications, podcasts, webinars and other online learning. Outside of work, Praveen enjoys spending time reading manga, playing video games, socialising with friends and is a regular movie goer.
Senior Account Manager
Originally from Slovakia, Zuz moved to the UK in 2004 and has since built over a decade of experience working in commercial and medical communications agencies. With a strong background in account and project management, Zuz excels in client liaison and strategic marketing, bringing a wealth of expertise to every project. Outside of work, Zuz enjoys reading, exploring art, horse riding, and hiking, and is an enthusiastic animal lover.
Account Director
Louise joined ELM Group as Account Director in 2023. She holds a BSc in Biology from the University of St Andrews and an MSc in Science Communication from the University of Kent. Louise has 8 years’ experience in medical communications from strategic planning to tactical delivery across a wide range of events, digital platforms and educational materials. She has worked in several therapy areas including inflammation, infectious disease, neurology, oncology, haematology, dermatology and even a short stint in veterinary sciences. When not at work Louise enjoys volunteering at her local theatre and walking her dog.
Editorial Team Leader
Kate has over 10 years’ experience in Medical Communications and has been working with ELM for the past 6 years on a variety of projects for our clients. Kate graduated with a BA in English Literature from Warwick University and worked in Scientific Publishing for Taylor & Francis and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery prior to beginning her career in Med Comms. Outside of work, Kate likes being in the outdoors, wild swimming and playing netball.
Finance Director
Mark is a qualified accountant with significant experience in financial management, particularly in publicly quoted companies. He has dealt with all aspects of PLC development, from bringing small companies to flotation, to supervising the on-going accountancy and ensuring the good governance of international businesses. As well as acting as Finance Director for ELM Group and several other private companies, Mark is currently Finance Director of Orogen Plc, and Chief Finance Officer of Optibiotix Health PLC. When he can Mark travels to rivers around the country to enjoy white-water canoeing.
Medical Writer
Emily graduated Keele University with a Masters degree in Biochemistry. Before completing her final year at university, Emily completed a Medical Writer internship at ELM Group and after her Master’s she joined ELM group as an Associate Medical Writer, progressing to Medical Writer soon after. Emily won the Kieran Fry and James Bradley award for outstanding contribution to the School of Life Sciences at Keele University. During her time at Keele, Emily organised and ran an Undergraduate Research Conference for final year Life Sciences students and became Guest Editor for the Journal of Education, Innovation, Partnership and Change. In her position at ELM Group, Emily is continually developing her medical writing skills, in addition to enhancing her knowledge of medical communications. Outside of work, Emily enjoys socialising with her friends and travelling.
Executive Assistant and Systems Manager
Having spent a number of years at home looking after her family, Elizabeth graduated from Keele University in 2018 with a First-Class Honours degree in Education and Sociology followed by a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Birmingham. At ELM Group, Elizabeth is PA to the CEO and supports other staff as needed. Outside of work, Elizabeth enjoys reading, going to the gym, the cinema and is a trustee of a local charity, ‘ A Child Of Mine’.
Finance Manager
Joshua is AAT qualified and is currently studying for his qualification in management accounting. In his previous career, Joshua gained a wealth of experience in management and customer service and has worked closely with senior leadership teams to manage budgets and deliver financial stability and efficient cost programmes. Since joining ELM Group, Joshua’s main responsibility is the preparation of project budgets and working with the Account Management team to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget for our clients. He is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Outside of work, Joshua has a keen interest in sport and regularly plays squash.
Account Executive
Lauren joined ELM Group as an Account Executive in 2024. She graduated from Swansea University with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in French, German with Translation and Interpreting. Since graduating, Lauren has worked in various client-facing and account management roles. When not at work, she enjoys reading, going on long walks and playing the flute in several music groups.
Associate Medical Writer
Alex graduated from Bangor University, where he achieved a Bachelors in Zoology with Animal Behaviour, gaining international experience studying Zoology at Oregon State University. Since then, he has worked in animal husbandry as a Presenter, Hatchery Technician and Zookeeper. Now Alex has changed careers, garnering experience as an Associate Medical Writer on multiple forums. Since joining ELM Group, Alex has worked on CESAS, producing content for the CSF and supporting the development of workshops for the European Achondroplasia Forum. He has also led several projects for ELM Medical for clients such as Norgine and Shionogi, developing content for symposiums, client reports and integrated evidence plans. Outside of the office Alex enjoys kayaking, snorkelling, skiing, photography, airsoft and archery.
Account Manager
Callum has a Bachelor’s degree in Town Planning and Geography from Sheffield Hallam University. Following his graduation Callum joined ELM group as an Account Executive for ELM Group. Now an Account Manager, Callum works on various aspects of projects with clients from CESAS Medical and ELM Medical. By working closely with all departments within the business Callum can ensure a quality deliverable for our clients. Outside of work Callum plays rugby for Stafford Rugby Club and is an avid sport fan.
Software Development Manager
Dave graduated from Staffordshire University with a degree in Computer Science and has worked within the IT industry for over 20 years as a Systems Analyst and Applications Developer to deliver IT applications and solutions to satisfy various business requirements. At Elm Group, Dave is the Software Development Manager, responsibile for the development and maintenance of web based applications for ELM Group companies. Outside of work, Dave enjoys travelling, music and spending time with his family.
Medical Writer
Alex earned his MSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Birmingham and now puts his writing skills to work at Elm Group as a Medical Writer. He crafts content for rheumatology, dermatology, gastroenterology, and lupus accounts. When he’s not dissecting complex medical information, you’ll find Alex hanging out with his dogs, getting lost in a good book, dabbling in creative writing, playing video games, or binge-watching way too many TV shows and movies.
Events Manager
Taya graduated from the University of Leeds with a First-Class Bachelor’s degree in Art History. Before joining ELM Group, Taya worked in London and Birmingham as a Paralegal and completed a Graduate Diploma in Law. As an Event Manager, Taya supports different projects and events for ELM Medical and CESAS Medical. Outside of work, Taya enjoys holidays with family and spending time with friends.
Digital Marketing Executive
Georgia started with ELM Group in 2024 after completing her Level 3 Apprenticeship in Digital Marketing, earning a distinction. Georgia now works in the Marketing team where her main responsibilities include managing social media accounts, creating and scheduling content, generating reports and supporting promotional activities. Outside of work, Georgia enjoys all things creative, attending concerts, and, of course, a bit of retail therapy!
Associate Medical Writer
Aifan graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with a Masters in Neuroscience. Since joining ELM Group, Aifan has developed his medical writing, and scientific communication skills. At ELM Group, Aifan is an Associate Medical Writer working within both CESAS Medical and ELM Medical where he is the central content creator for axSpA, and is a key driving force on our Shionogi accounts. In his role, Aifan is involved in the production of a range of scientific materials, including Publications, Integrated Evidence Plans, Advisory Boards, and Online Learning. In his spare time, Aifan enjoys cooking, baking, and tinkering with technology. Aifan’s interests also include playing volleyball, and bodybuilding.
Office Manager
Assumpta brings 15 years Team Management experience and 25 years business administration experience to her role as Office Manager. A qualified Pensions Administrator she is currently studying for an advanced accounting qualification. She is AAT qualified and a long-term member of the Association of Accounting Technicians. At ELM Group, Assumpta is responsible for the smooth running of the UK office, including the management of the finance team and staffing. Assumpta has one daughter, Grace, who has a passion for the stage and so much of her spare time is spent watching amateur dramatic performances and concerts.
Senior Account Manager
Evie graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Event Management. Since then, Evie has represented large corporate businesses across the UK, delivering a plethora of successful events, including Conferences, Exhibitions, Meetings, Gala’s and Award evenings. Evie is currently on maternity leave, however when in the office, Evie is responsible for the planning and successful delivery of small and large-scale events, embracing the ELM Group philosophy of delivering high-quality programmes to Health Care Professionals. Evie’s main interest outside of work is singing, and she often performs at events across Staffordshire.
Senior Account Executive
Andrea joined us as Senior Account Executive on the CESAS account in November 2023. She graduated on Oriental Languages and Cultures major at Karoly Gaspar University in Hungary. Andrea has over 10 years of experience in client facing positions including childcare and education, entertainment, event organization and team management. Andrea has been in medical communications since 2021, managing publications within oncology, haematology, dermatology and rheumatology. Outside of work, Andrea enjoys having a nice meal at her favourite restaurant and going on hikes with her husband.
Medical Writer
Matt joined ELM Group as a Medical Writer in 2023 after completing his PhD in chemistry at the University of Manchester. Exposure to various multidisciplinary industries and academic institutions has allowed him to gain experience in conducting, understanding and communicating science. Outside of work, Matt enjoys planning motorcycle trips and spending too much time playing a Dutch sport called Korfball.
Account Executive
Amy graduated from South Devon College with an extended diploma in Travel and Tourism. After working in Clinic Management for the NHS, Amy joined ELM Group as an Accounts Executive, with social media responsibilities for our CESAS forums. In her role, Amy works on a range of projects, liaising with clients from ELM Medical, managing timelines and working closely with content and event teams to ensure deadlines are met in a timely manner. She also manages the social media posts for CESAS Medical. In her spare time, Amy enjoys going to concerts, family gatherings and walks over Cannock Chase with her partner and their Beagle, Indy.
Web Developer
Callum received a Distinction upon completing the Software Development Technician course from Baltic Apprenticeships. Since joining ELM Group, Callum has progressed in his Software Development skills and is learning more every day. At ELM Group, Callum is a Web Developer working primarily with Laravel to maintain Elm’s range of sites. In his role, Callum is involved in the production and ongoing development of many forum sites, offering insight and his knowledge of web development wherever relevant, and prioritising user experience throughout. In his spare time, Callum enjoys consuming a variety of media including movies, books, and TV-shows. Callum’s interests also include playing video/board games, building software he never gets around to finishing, and finding new and hopefully interesting places to eat.
Project Executive
Shelley Graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a BSc in Biological Science and a Masters in Professional Practice and Life Long Education. At Elm Group, Shelley is a Project Executive where supervises and tracks project deadlines and staff workload across CESAS and ELM. In her spare time, Shelley enjoys nature, walking her dog in the forest and at the beach, and plays the Bass guitar.
